AZELLA Testing Window OpensPosted on 02/09/2021Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are letting you know that the window for assessments has begun and your school will be reaching out to you to share the schedule for the Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA). This assessment requires your child to be present at school and transportation will be provided- if needed. Again, your school will be contacting you directly. Thank you for being patient with us this school year while we navigate distance learning during COVID-19. Safety is a high priority at Cartwright, and we couldn’t have been successful without your support!
Here is important information you need to know about AZELLA:
It is a standards-based assessment that measures a student’s level of English proficiency based on Arizona’s English Language Proficiency Standards. The AZELLA meets both state and federal requirements for assessing the language proficiency of students identified as second language learners. It also determines placement for appropriate instruction, is used as entry and exit criteria for English Learner (EL) program services, and measures annual progress toward the attainment of English language proficiency. Results from this assessment are used for various state and federal reporting and accountability measures.
While AZELLA is not the type of test you study for, there are some things you can do to help our scholars do their very best:
- Work with your school staff to ensure your student takes the sample tests,
this will get them familiar with the format of the test
- Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before testing begins
- Make sure you child has a nutritional breakfast on the day of testing
- Encourage your child to do his or her best in answering every question
Once the Listening/Reading/Writing portion of the test is completed, students will do the speaking test, possibly at a separate testing session.
Again, thank you for your support!
“One Team, Una Familia!”
Sincerely,
Dr. LeeAnn Aguilar-Lawlor
