Ballet Folklorico Impresses at DebutPosted on 12/11/2019The colorful sights, steps and sounds of Ballet Folklorico were on display on November 18th thanks to our wonderful new student dancers at Heatherbrae Elementary! The group did an incredible job during their first performance in conjunction with the school's choir group. Mrs. Ana Velasquez acts as mentor and coach to 16 Ballet Folklorico students. She accepts 2nd - 6th graders in her group but they have to be well-behaved students who love to perform, love music and love their culture. One of Superintendent Dr. Aguilar-Lawlor's goals was to implement a Ballet Folklorico group at Cartwright. The children started performing together during the summer. A parent who saw the performance said, "After parents saw students dance there is now an overwhelming interest in students who want to be part of this group with their parent's support." 10 other students will be added to the group in the near future.
