  • Parents and Families,

My name is Mike Clark. I am the proud Principal of Desert Sands Middle School. In 2022-2023, we are excited to rebrand and transition into Desert Sands Middle School Academy of Mass Communication and Journalism.

As we look ahead to the 22-23 school year, we are thrilled to welcome our scholars and families returning, the new scholars and families joining us, and those preparing for middle school for the first time. I wanted to share some information about Desert Sands Academy of Mass Communications and Journalism.

The Academy of Mass Communication & Journalism will provide scholars with opportunities to learn modern skills & discover new interests in the realm of communications. The new academy will provide platforms for our 7th and 8th grade scholars to share their talents and abilities inside and outside the classroom. The first year of the academy will build a foundation in all subject matters and areas but will have an added and profound focus on writing & vocabulary.

We plan to partner with a variety of universities in order to expose scholars to the growing fields of global communications & media, we plan to take field trips to TV News Stations, and much more.. Some of the extra-curricular classes/clubs offered will be: The Scorpion News Club, Debate Team, Podcasting, digital newsletters and sports broadcasting.

This is all in addition to the exciting opportunities currently happening at Desert Sands Middle School.

At Desert Sands Academy of Mass Communication and Journalism, we understand Global Communication is the Key to the Future, and we are confident that the futures’ of your children will shine bright at Desert Sands.

If you have any questions or would like to visit our campus, please feel free to send an email to me directly or call 623-691-4900, and I will be happy to follow up.  We look forward to supporting your children and our wonderful community.

    Sincerely,

    Mike Clark

    Principal
