    Principal Mcoy HeadshotParents and Families,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to the 2023-2024 school year! It is with pride that I introduce myself as the new principal of Desert Sands Middle School Academy of Mass Communication and Journalism. My name is Patricia McCoy. I have 17 years of educational experience including assistant principal of Desert Sands, school counselor, and teacher. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve our community, and I look forward to working collaboratively to develop a positive and safe learning environment for all scholars.

We are excited to welcome back our returning scholars and families as well as our new scholars. and families. It is our mission to help every scholar feel welcomed, connected, and part of our Desert Sands family. We will continue to offer opportunities for students, such as after-school sports and clubs to allow them to share their strengths, talents, and potential inside and outside of the classroom. Our academy will provide many opportunities for students to learn new skill sets and discover new interests in the realm of mass communication. We will continue a positive culture and climate where we are all setting high expectations for learning. Together with our dedicated staff, we will strive to make connections with students to help them feel valued, accepted, and safe.

I am committed to working in partnership with our families, staff, and community in order to support our scholars in reaching their maximum potential. I strongly encourage you to attend and support our school events. If you have any questions or would like to visit our campus, Please feel free to send an email directly to me at [email protected] or call 623-691-4900. We look forward to working with all of you to make this school year successful. Let’s make it a great year at Desert Sands, together!
