Eighth Grade
In eighth grade, all of our students take Algebra and will have the opportunity to earn an algebra credit for high school. Students will extend their work with linear equations to analyze and solve simultaneous equations. Students will work with rational and irrational numbers as well as units to solve multi-step real-world problems. Students will solve quadratic equations in one variable and graph equations. Our students will understand, evaluate and graph functions. Students will represent, interpret and summarize data from two or more data sets. In reading, eighth-grade students focus on finding the theme and central idea of a text, analyzing the intentional choices authors make, writing objective summaries, citing text evidence to support inferences, determining the meaning of key vocabulary, and evaluating varying perspectives of topics. Students also write opinion, narrative, and explanatory pieces using appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
