  • Eighth Grade

In eighth grade, all of our students take algebra and can earn an algebra credit for high school.  Students extend their work with linear equations to analyze and solve simultaneous equations.  Students work with rational and irrational numbers as well as units to solve multi-step real-world problems.  Students solve quadratic equations in one variable and graph equations.  Our students understand, evaluate and graph functions. Students represent, interpret and summarize data from two or more data sets. In reading, eighth-grade students focus on finding the theme and central idea of a text, analyzing the intentional choices authors make, writing objective summaries, citing text evidence to support inferences, determining the meaning of key vocabulary, and evaluating varying perspectives of topics. Students also write opinion, narratives and explanatory pieces using appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
