At the Cartwright School District, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their housing situation. The McKinney-Vento/Homeless Education Program is dedicated to ensuring that all scholars facing homelessness have access to the resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our comprehensive support services are designed to address the unique challenges that homeless families face, providing a stable and nurturing educational environment for every scholar.
Our Services:
-
Community Referrals and Support Services
We connect families with local community resources to address broader needs such as healthcare, nutrition, and housing assistance. By partnering with community organizations, we help families access a network of support services that can aid in their journey towards stability and self-sufficiency. We invite you to come to the Center for Strong Families and Thriving Children for more information or you can reach us (623) 691-1994.
-
Academic Support and Counseling
In addition to material support, our program offers academic tutoring and counseling services. We work closely with scholars to address any educational gaps, provide homework assistance, and offer social, emotional, and mental support. Our goal is to help scholars overcome the challenges associated with homelessness and succeed academically.
-
Scholar Uniforms
Uniforms are an important part of maintaining a sense of normalcy and belonging in school. We provide scholar uniforms to ensure that all scholars can adhere to school dress codes without financial burden. This support helps scholars feel included and ready to participate fully in their educational experience.
-
Hotel Vouchers
For families in urgent need of shelter, we offer hotel vouchers through the Salvation Army as a temporary housing solution. This service provides a safe and stable environment for scholars and their families, allowing them to focus on their education without the stress of immediate homelessness.
-
School Supplies
We understand that having the right tools is essential for academic success. Our program supplies scholars with essential school items, including backpacks, notebooks, writing utensils, and other classroom necessities. This support ensures that all scholars start the school day prepared and confident.
-
Transportation Assistance
Ensuring scholars can consistently attend school is a top priority. Our program provides transportation services to help scholars get to and from school safely and reliably. We coordinate with local transportation services to arrange bus routes or other means of transport, removing one of the significant barriers to regular school attendance.
