Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to keep all students safe when it comes to electric scooters and electric-bikes. Many parents are unaware that operating these motorized vehicles comes with strict age restrictions and traffic laws. Under Arizona law and local ordinances, children under the age of 16 are subject to specific regulations, and parents can be held legally responsible for allowing underage riding.

Please be aware of the following rule:

Cartwright School District students under the age of 16 are not permitted to ride, operate, or be in control of an electric scooter or e-bike to, from, or on school grounds at any time.

Per Phoenix City Code, here are the specific guidelines:

● Electric Scooters (§36-308): No person under the age of 16 may operate an electric scooter.

● Electric Bicycles (§36-510): No person under the age of 16 may operate an electric bicycle.

● No sidewalk riding: E-scooters and e-bikes should be used on the road, not on sidewalks.

● Follow traffic laws: Just like bikes, e-scooters and e-bikes must follow the rules of the road.

We'd really appreciate it if you could talk to your student about these rules and ensure they have a safe and legal way to get to and from school. If a student arrives at school on an e-scooter or e-bike and is under the age of 16, the e-scooter or e-bike will be confiscated and school administration will contact you.
