Walking Together in Unity

Students, families, and staff at Charles W. Harris School gathered for a powerful community walk inspired by the courage and legacy of Ruby Bridges, whose historic steps continue to shape public education and inspire inclusiveness in schools today.

The walk served as a reminder that Harris is a place where everyone belongs.
“Our school welcomes all of us—no matter our race, our color, or our language,” a staff member shared. “We are here for each other, and we walk forward together.”

Participants emphasized the importance of coming together as a community.
“It’s important to show that we’re welcoming to everyone who steps into our school,” one parent said. “Every child deserves a fair and excellent education.”

The event continues to grow each year, reflecting the strong bonds within the Harris community.
“Harris truly is the hub of our neighborhood,” another staff member added. “This walk shows how much our families value unity, belonging, and public education.”

District leaders also expressed pride in the community’s commitment to inclusiveness.
“Because of the path paved by Ruby Bridges, our students feel safe and welcome—no matter their background,” one leader shared. “It’s an honor to celebrate that legacy alongside our families.”

With every step, the Harris community reaffirmed its belief in kindness, courage, and walking forward together—just as Ruby once did.
