Heatherbrae Elementary School is nestled in the Maryvale Neighborhood of West Phoenix, Arizona. This neighborhood was developed in the 1950s and the 1960s during a period of economic growth. The Heatherbrae Elementary School opened in the Fall of 1971 and was the twelfth school to be built in the Cartwright Elementary School District.
Nicholas Gupton was the original principal from 1971 to 1976. He led the school in a team teaching, open concept model. The staff consisted of 21 teachers and three classified staff members. There were approximately 600 students.
Today this school stands as a pillar of support for its students and families. It is the home to inquisitive, high-spirited, trusting students and dedicated, respectful, and responsible staff working as members of a Professional Learning Community.
