Cartwright School District proudly kicked off the 2025–2026 school year with an inspiring Welcome Back Conference attended by nearly 2,000 staff members, including administrators, principals, teachers, support staff, custodial teams, cafeteria workers, transportation staff, and more.
The event began on a high note with a vibrant performance by the Raul H. Castro Middle School mariachi band, under the direction of Mr. Lopez. The band energized the audience with classic Mexican songs such as De Colores, setting a festive and uplifting tone for the day.
Acting Superintendent Mr. Steve Watson welcomed everyone and shared a motivating message about the power of a new school year, a fresh start filled with opportunities to support, uplift, and educate every student.
The keynote speaker, Juliana Urtubey, a former special education teacher in Cartwright and a nationally recognized educator, shared her powerful story. She spoke about her passion for education and the importance of treating every student with dignity, inspiring staff to continue making a difference in the lives of children.
After the conference, staff members were invited to visit the district’s Health Fair. The fair included resources from health, dental, and vision providers, along with local wellness vendors who offered tools and information to support personal well-being.
We thank everyone who participated in this meaningful event and look forward to a successful and inspiring school year ahead.
