The mission at Marc Atkinson Middle School is to ensure that each student is prepared for post-secondary success. Our staff is dedicated to this mission through supporting our students in both academics and social development. All of our decisions are made in the best interest of our students. In order to ensure academic success, we focus on First Best Instruction. To tend to our students personal and social development, we are utilizing the programs Character Development and Leadership and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

The Minimum Wage and Paid Time Off Initiative, also known as Proposition 206, was approved on November 8, 2016.
Proposition 206 is designed to increase the minimum wage to $10 in 2017, $10.50 in 2018, $11.00 in 2019, and $12 in 2020. Starting in 2021, the measure will increase the minimum wage based on the cost of living index for Arizona. Effective July 1st, the initiative also guarantees 40 hours of annual paid sick time to employees of businesses with 15 or more employees and 24 hours to those of businesses with less than 15 employees. The measure entitles employees to accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. The measure permits earned paid sick time to be utilized for an employeeâ€™s medical care, an employeeâ€™s need to care for a family member, a public health emergency or addressing domestic violence.
For Cartwright School District, more than 700 employees will be impacted, with a recurring annual cost in excess of $650,000.
