Letter from Our Principal
Tracy Baker-Weigold

Dear Peña Families,

Our staff is very excited to welcome everyone back to another amazing year of learning and growing together. We have many talented teachers here at Peña! Our school focuses on preparing our students to become college and career ready by ensuring all children have the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the 21st century.

We value having a partnership with parents at Peña. We encourage families to join us for our monthly Coffee Talks, volunteer to help in classrooms, attend parent trainings and workshops or come by and have lunch with your child in our cafeteria.

Please be sure to contact me at (623) 691-3110, if you have any questions or need my support. I am dedicated to helping you and your child have the highest quality educational experience possible.

Warmest regards,
Tracy Baker-Weigold

A Message from the Superintendent's Office about Prop 206

The Minimum Wage and Paid Time Off Initiative, also known as Proposition 206, was approved on November 8, 2016.

Proposition 206 is designed to increase the minimum wage to $10 in 2017, $10.50 in 2018, $11.00 in 2019, and $12 in 2020. Starting in 2021, the measure will increase the minimum wage based on the cost of living index for Arizona. Effective July 1st, the initiative also guarantees 40 hours of annual paid sick time to employees of businesses with 15 or more employees and 24 hours to those of businesses with less than 15 employees. The measure entitles employees to accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. The measure permits earned paid sick time to be utilized for an employee's medical care, an employee's need to care for a family member, a public health emergency or addressing domestic violence.

For Cartwright School District, more than 700 employees will be impacted, with a recurring annual cost in excess of $650,000.
