Letter from Our Principal
Rebecca Leimkuehler

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:

Welcome to Holiday Park and the 2016-2017 School Year. Our mission is to develop a community of learners who are critical thinkers, effective communicators, problem solvers, and wonderers. With your help, we can achieve this mission.

Holiday Park is committed to a rigorous curriculum that will prepare all of our students for future endeavors. To do this, we offer a variety of academic programs: Early Literacy focus in Kindergarten through 3rd grade allow us to focus our resources and training to ensure that every 3rd grade child leaves Holiday Park mastering Reading. Our 3rd grade through 5th grade Math focus allows us to integrate Science and Technology within the Math curriculum to engage and motivate our students while ensuring they are able to meet the demands of the 21st century world.

We understand that every child is different and we are committed, as a staff, to know and understand each of our students to ensure they are getting exactly what they need to be successful. When addressing the needs of every learner, we must provide effective and appropriate support. Our administrators, support specialists, counseling personnel, and teachers are here to meet your child’s needs at all times.

In addition to academics, we offer opportunities for social and emotional learning and growth for our staff and students. Knowing the importance of regulating our emotions, understanding social skills and expectations, opportunities for giving back to our community and purposefully thinking about gratitude round out all members of our community and help to make us respectful and kind citizens.

In an effort to provide a safe learning environment and provide open communication between school and families, we will ensure that each family has access to our school and district handbook as well as on-going forms of communication to keep families updated on news and activities at Holiday Park.

Again, welcome to Holiday Park. I look forward to meeting you and your child/children as we start our new year of learning together. If you ever need to speak with me please feel free to arrange a meeting or time for a phone call that is convenient for you. I welcome your voice as we work together for the greater good of each child.

A Message from the Superintendent's Office about Prop 206

The Minimum Wage and Paid Time Off Initiative, also known as Proposition 206, was approved on November 8, 2016.

Proposition 206 is designed to increase the minimum wage to $10 in 2017, $10.50 in 2018, $11.00 in 2019, and $12 in 2020. Starting in 2021, the measure will increase the minimum wage based on the cost of living index for Arizona. Effective July 1st, the initiative also guarantees 40 hours of annual paid sick time to employees of businesses with 15 or more employees and 24 hours to those of businesses with less than 15 employees. The measure entitles employees to accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. The measure permits earned paid sick time to be utilized for an employee's medical care, an employee's need to care for a family member, a public health emergency or addressing domestic violence.

For Cartwright School District, more than 700 employees will be impacted, with a recurring annual cost in excess of $650,000.
