We are a K-8 school and we have approximately 760 amazing students ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade. We are dedicated to providing a world-class education to our students. Once they leave the halls of Downs, we are confident our students will not only be high school bound, but be college and career ready, and that they will contribute to society. Thank you for choosing Glenn L. Downs!
On behalf of the staff of Glenn L. Downs Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to our amazing school. We have approximately 750 awesome students ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade. As a staff, we are energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our students. We are dedicated to providing our students with the skills necessary to ensure they reach their potential as global citizens and to be in position to give back to the world more than they take. We feel privileged to be a part of this school family.
At our school, we work diligently to build a community where students feel safe to try new things. Staff members are committed to ensuring student interests are considered when developing engaging lessons. We put forth the extra effort each day to make our school a place where students thrive and look forward to spending their elementary years.
We invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering, joining our PTO, or attending and supporting school events. Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success. We are partners in your child’s education and look forward to working together to make certain that our students have the skills necessary to reach their potential. Thank you for choosing us!
The Minimum Wage and Paid Time Off Initiative, also known as Proposition 206, was approved on November 8, 2016.
Proposition 206 is designed to increase the minimum wage to $10 in 2017, $10.50 in 2018, $11.00 in 2019, and $12 in 2020. Starting in 2021, the measure will increase the minimum wage based on the cost of living index for Arizona. Effective July 1st, the initiative also guarantees 40 hours of annual paid sick time to employees of businesses with 15 or more employees and 24 hours to those of businesses with less than 15 employees. The measure entitles employees to accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. The measure permits earned paid sick time to be utilized for an employee's medical care, an employee's need to care for a family member, a public health emergency or addressing domestic violence.
For Cartwright School District, more than 700 employees will be impacted, with a recurring annual cost in excess of $650,000.
